Open Sesame

Multifunction timber masses transform providing a number of different functions while evoking an element of surprise for this young couple’s compact 35sqm kitchen-living-dining area.

White planes slide to open the back-unit of the monochromatic kitchen during cooking action with the possibility to close off when not in use. This concept dual acts to partly conceal the kitchen from the entrance hall and for tucking clutter out of sight.

Opposite, a walnut plane warms up the living area and covers the main wall within the space. The dark timber mass contrasts the stark-white seamless resin floor, reflecting ample natural light within the space. This walnut mass for the TV also triple-acts as the entrance hallway with jacket and shoe racks, a bar cabinet for spirits complimented with a serving sliding tray, and as section for additional storage.
